GERMANY warned yesterday it may be too late to save Greece from financial meltdown – and Angela Merkel claimed the Eurozone could unravel.
The German Chancellor conceded that Europe’s first multi-billion-euro rescue bailout, coupled with austerity measures, was not working.
This is the first time the European powerhouse has admitted the euro could be close to being carved up or even collapsing completely.
Ms Merkel said: “We haven’t overcome the crisis yet. There is Greece, a special case where, despite the efforts that have been made, neither the Greeks themselves nor the international community have stabilised the situation.”
But, in a move that will annoy Britain, the German leader also called for the eventual creation of a European political union, with many more national powers ceded to a central government, and a stronger European parliament. She also wants more power for the European Court of Justice.
Ms Merkel added: “My vision is one of political union. We need to become incrementally closer and closer, in all policy areas. Over a long process we will transfer more powers to the European Commission, which will then handle what falls within the European remit like a government of Europe.”

Her remarks are likely to put her on a collision course with David Cameron days ahead of a crucial EU summit in Brussels.

NO IT WON'T! Governments (with the exception Greece & Italy) are democratically elected! This nothing more than a power grab, these people aren't even trying to hide it any more.
well we can't have countries ruling themselves can we!
