FURY AT MINISTER OVER GURKHAS ‘ASYLUM’ JIBE

Monday September 19,2011

OK I know this isn't an EU related issue but this is something I feel very strongly about First off all if I was an MP I would be overjoyed to have Gurkhas & their families in my constituents, having had the honour of serving alongside them on more than one occasion I can honestly say  without a shadow of a doubt that they are the most honest, hard working & loyal of people.& lets face it when was the last time you heard of a Gurkha going to prison?
These people have fought & died for this country, how many asylum seekers can say the same? Mr Howarth,  an MP usually has a reputation for supporting the armed forces now seems to be doing the complete opposite.
In closing, perhaps he should focus more on asylum seekers that are just here to claim benefits & not the ones that have actually earned the right (in blood) to stay.Story Image

Gerald Howarth faced calls to resign yesterday

By John Ingham

DEFENCE minister Gerald Howarth faced calls to resign yesterday after he said retired Gurkhas must be dispersed in the UK like “asylum seekers”.
The Aldershot MP backed constituents who claim local services have been overrun by retired Gurkhas and their families since they were given the right to settle in Britain.
He said that despite being a defence minister, he “got no joy” with help from the MoD.
And he told BBC Radio 5 Live: “There needs to be a policy of dispersal.”
Appealing to “any local authority leaders listening”, he added: “Why not invite the Nepalese community to come and settle in their areas?” Bemoaning the strain on the NHS in his constituency, he said: “It’s all very well the nation saying we owe these people a debt of gratitude.”
When Gurkha campaigner Peter Carroll said he was “aghast”, the MP replied: “Don’t be so ridiculous – it’s a perfectly sensible policy. Dispersal is what we do with asylum seekers.”

Mr Carroll said he will write to the Prime Minister asking him to remove Mr Howarth. He added he was shocked “brave British Army veterans” were likened to asylum seekers.
